Horatio is described on the jacket flap of my copy as "endearingly self doubting" which sums him up pretty well. Posted on February 24, 2009 by Jenny. However, I was more tantalized by the unrequited love story in the first in the Horatio Hornblower series “Beat to Quarters” by C.S. Beat-to-quarters Beat to Quarters is, in one sense, the first novel in the famous series of Horatio Hornblower novels by C.S. Forester, and in another sense it's the sixth. Forester's famous eleven-volume saga about a Royal Navy officer named Horatio Hornblower, during the Napoleonic Wars. Book 6 Beat to Quarters June 1808, somewhere west of Nicaragua-a site suitable for spectacular sea battles. Casual Danger Dialog: The protracted discussion between Bush and another lieutenant in Beat to Quarters, where they academically debate how the Natividad's officers are laying their guns while they are shooting at the Lydia. By the time that his travels brought him back to England, Forester had plotted his famous novel about the mission of Horatio Hornblower, Beat to Quarters. You can't have a list of sea fiction without including Horatio Hornblower. Entitled Beat to Quarters, it was the sixth book in C.S. Your review of “Fifty Shades” is spot-on! I can't talk of the other offerings, but Forester's Hornblower hardly fits that description. This is the first book in chronological order where we meet Hornblower.
